In my local neewspaper on tuesday was an advert
selling some Woodturning magazines from 1942- 1951
for £1 per year  also Woodcarving for the
same price. I forgot about it until 6p.m. today :(
I rang up not expecting any luck and they were
still there :D , so all being well i'm picking them
up tomorrow. 8) 8) 8)

Good find. I won about 8yrs worth of Woodturning on eBay a while back. I must admit, once you get passed a few years, they get a little repetitive. I think there is one article on the Skew Chisel in every three issues.

Good to get an overview of the history of the scene.

Bit of a bargain - should give you something to do in the wee small hours..

Wizer, you might have bought mine as I sold about 70 issues from issue 1 upwards! glad they are getting another airing.
Chris.

Not meant as a gloat, 'cos they aren't tools, but I have a complete run of mostly bound volumes of Woodworker from 1939 to 1990s. The changing style is very interesting - FWIW, I reckon it was probably at its best in the 1980s, and has generally gone downhill since. It was also pretty ropey in the late 60s early 70s when it dabbled in plastics.
And the wartime ones are a timely reminder of what real shortages meant.
