My newly aquired RAS has had a bit of a hiccup, the power cable between the inverter and motor had developed damage at a permenant bend, and the internal cables between two of the phases short circuited; cue acrid smoke and sparks.

Who should I be looking to contact to sort it out? In theory any electrician should be able to repair and test it, but someone who specialises in machinery would be better. I'm North Wales based, so if there are specific reccomendations based in N Wales or the Northwest more generally I'd be much obliged.

I'm also assuming that contacting dewalt for service is probably a lost cause, given the saw is older than I am and has had 4 owners.

I entertained the idea of popping down to CEF, getting a 3-phase junction box and connecting up the cable where i'd chopped out the damaged inch or so to examine it but figured It was a bit too sketchy.

If you do decide to do it yourself and for a home workshop you can but not if you employ anyone ( the equipment would need inspection and test before connection). A junction box would certainly sort the cables (don't mix them up mark in pairs before you cut) however that does not check the rest of the internal wiring/ motor/switch etc for electrical safety and 440V is a killer. so once you have connected up be sure to check for other shorts (using a megger) before connecting power.

I could get it tested by the fellow in our electronics lab, and I have a mate who runs a fabrication firm and services a lot of his own machines coming to have a look at the offending machine... which seems to work out costing me a couple of pints rather than the hourly fee of an electrician.

As far as I can tell from the wiring diagrams etc it's actually a 2-phase 240v setup, not the 3-phase 415v I initially thought.
