Liberon Beeswax with pure turpentine

I purchased a tin of above last year and I notice the lid has a puncture hole in the centre.

Is this normal for some technical reason or do I have a damaged container?

Or should I seal it with a strip of selotape?

i think that it is normal- probably to enable you to close the lid easily, without trying to compress air inside.

it will be fine!

Back in the workshop 4 times the past week, two boxes and a large picture frame. The frame took a whole sheet of paper to work out the dimensions, forgotten how to set a plan up. However used some pallet battens chucked in a B & Q skip and was available free.

Got to start on a clock when design finalised.

no bees at the moment- too busy with work to look after them properly. I do have some wax though and some turpentine that I must try making up some polish with.

Melt some carnauba into it - crush it very finely, it doesn't dissolve easily. It's the hardest wax in the world - it'll harden your polish. Beeswax with genuine turps is lovely, but it marks very easily.

I was told that it's necessary for the manufacturing/packaging process, from memory the wax is poured into the can in a molten state and then sealed, so the hole is to allow volumetric changes during cooling.

Custard, if that is the explanation I think I should now seal the hole, it can only lead to wax drying out eventually.

I did send Liberon an email but they never responded.

My tin of the same has a hole in the lid. It is some (maybe 5?) years old and I have noticed no drying out.

Yes, the hole is meant to be there.

The wax is poured into the tin hot and as it cools it releases pressure, the hole helps this to escape. If the hole wasn't there the lid would pop off.
