I needed some hornbeam for a turning job, and after trying lots of non-sources, left a message with a local firewood supplier. He rang me back that evening, and conversation went as follows:-
Him:-"you want some hornbeam? no problem I have to cut some every week for the elephants"
Me:- Uh?????
Story is, he has a contract to supply leafy branches of hornbeam to Woburn Safary Park, because the leaves are just the right texture and nutrient content for elephants to browse on.
Well, that's what he claimed, anyway!
