JS & S Brace

This is my favourite Bit brace, bought in a junk shop in Mid-Wales a few years ago. It has no particularly remarkable design features, but is significantly better made than the other braces I have found over the years.

The main mystery is who made it and where, I have never seen anything else by JS & S (assuming its: "Someones name" & Son).

There is a nice logo of two circles connected by 2 sides of a triangle and the JS and & S is separated by to vertical lines. It says foreign under the logo.

Anyone know anything about this company or seen any others by them?

For anything to do with European tools, my first choice of reference is always Wolfgang Jordan's fine website.

This list of makers http://www.holzwerken.de/museum/hersteller/marken.phtml shows that your brace was made by Jac. Schmitz & Sohn, of Düsseldorf.

Thanks Andy, good to know the company. There does not seem to be any information on them on the web that I can find, though main land european makes do often seem hard to get information on...

Yes, it's not much to go on really. Wolfgang does post on here sometimes so might be able to help, but I expect that if he had more info, the entry on the list would be a link leading to it.
