Hi all

I have been looking at some nice HiFistands today and they are made up from small pieces of Oak I would guess 40mm square and only 300mm long jointed together with a finger type joint. I have seen this done in many so called "solid" wood furniture.

In this case of a HiFi table the stability of the jointed boards here is probably a benefit over solid Oak not to mention considerably cheaper. Does anyone know if this type of board is available ready jointed up or am I going to need a spindle moulder?

:D

Ah those, sure I've seen them before. I'm not aware of anywhere that sells lengths of glue jointed oak, that design seems like a way to use offcut grade wood. Reckon you'd be much better off with larger pieces of solid wood.

One of my first pieces of furniture was a hifi stand made out of 25mm oak, it's maybe a little bit slender but has done the job just fine and behaved itself
