Hi
I have the notorius jet saw with a timed belt for the rise qnd fall and was told that there was an chain upgrade or somthing similar but not sure were I could get it. Has anyone else had problems with this saw?

Cheers guys really appreciate the advice

Hi Jackal
I have had one of hese saws for about eight years now and this is the first time I have heard it referred to as notorious, a year or so after I purchased it I was supplied with a modification kit by Axminster, details area bit vague now but I seem to recall it involved removing the rise and fall hand wheel assy and fitting a new drive belt (definitely not a chain!). In truth aside from some initial set up issues with the sliding table this saw has behaved impeccably both before and after the modification. I assume that anything built after approx 2005 would have had this modification done at the factory although it may be worth checking with the uk importers who I believe are Axminster. There is a guy on here called Jetman who works for the importers and he has been very helpful to members over the years, I'm sure if he sees this he will be able to set the record straight.
How old is your saw and how long have you owned it, I have been really pleased with mine in fact I also bought one of the much vaunted Excalibur cabinet saws just before Christmas and I think if I had to chose between them I would stick with the Jet.
Cheers
Richard

my saw is older than that without the mod kit but will ask (jetman) axminster. I did definetely read about a small gage chain mod in the states. Your belt has a 5mm pitch but mine has only 3mm the problem seems to be the saw dust builds up and jams the worm gear i think.

I do love my saw and it does perform well other than the dust extraction!

thanks for the help Richard

I don't quite follow why a change from a timing belt to a chain drive is going to stop the worm gear clogging with sawdust.
If the belt is slipping now and then, this is probably protecting the mechanism whereas a chine will enable you to force things more.

Sounds like regular maintenance to clean the troublesome areas and maybe fit some deflectors to keep the dust away.
Maybe use a dry ptfe lubricant instead of any oil/grease that will make sawdust stick.
