Japanese waterstone good find ?

So I've acquired a Japanese (?) waterstone can anyone tell me any more information on this one , pics-

Size is 8 1/2" x 2" x 1 1/2"

I would say it was from China, not Japan.

The writing is Japanese and translates to the same as the English , 99.999999% sure its Japanese

The writing is in Kanji, not hiragana or katakana.

Kanji is used in both Japanese and Chinese (although they're drawn in slightly different styles;
experts can tell them apart).

The easiest way to see what you got would be to simply try it - you're not going to damage it that way, so why not?

At the risk of being tautologous, the common ones are commoner. :wink:

Never seen the type before. If nobody else here can help ask on one of the razor forums, they're full of stone experts.

Regardless of the spec it looks like it could be a good finishing stone and the best way to find out what it's like is to test it out for yourself. Do you have any other waterstones to compare it to?

FWIW I'd have pegged the box as Japanese myself, just from the look of it.

Hi Ed , Thanks for an informative and friendly reply , it is very fine works nicely although a bit to fine for my tools , as you say maybe better for straights or knives . The question was just to try and find a bit more info out really .
