Hi,

Can anyone suggest an online resource that can inform me about Japanese gardens, plants and designs. I would also like to know if there are any UK suppliers of Japanese plants, trees, moss etc... also on the web?

All the best,

David

I would suggest you get a copy of "A Japanese Touch for Your Garden" (ISBN 0-87011-391-7) which covers all aspects of Japanese Gardens.

The Guy I buy my Bonsai from has published a book on the subject as well as several on bonsai. it's called "Creating a Japanese Garden" (ISBN 1-85648-696-6). He also sells plants and hard landscaping items from his nursery, his web sites are.

And another source for materials is http://www.rhinorock.co.uk/index.html

And the Japanese Garden Society http://www.jgs.org.uk/

Hope this is of help, ask if yo need more info

Have a look at http://www.japangarden.co.uk. They have loads of stuff and are UK based. Only one thing... anything Japanese is VERY expensive... For instance a minature Zen Garden which is basically some gravel and stones and a couple of toy rakes comes to a staggering £62.25.

I personally hate Acers... mainly because if I see them in a garden centre I just have to have a looksee and invariably end up buying one... :eek:ops

Blimey Neomorph, you might be onto something. That could be it! That could finally explain what's been going on with my bank account!

i've been tempted to get into Bonsai properly. So much delicate work tho.

I've just sold all my trees on fleabay - I did them for about 15 years and had a good collection. Its a very large time commitment with them, you can spend hours and hours just pruning, adjusting and contemplating what needs to be done. Unlike a piece of furniture, a bonsai is never finished as it keeps on growing so its constant attention all the time, especially at this time of year. Provided 'er indoors is OK I may start again next year with just a few so I don't over stretch myself, probably grow them myself in the ground or convert from garden centre stock - Peter Chan at Heron is one of the places to go - Gold Medal winner at Chelsea some years ago - Rob

Think he's upto 21 or 22 Chelsea Golds, get my trees, pots etc from there as He's only 20mins from me, been using him for about 18 years.

Hehe... Damn right there... I spent a ton of cash last year on my garden. If you want to save cash then buy tiny Acers like I did last year and they are growing nicely now.
