Hi does anyone know how to fit a jacobs chuck to a electra lathe I think these now go under the name Metabo

Thanks. Ted

Hi the lathe has s solid threaded bar with a bearing mounted on the end with no provision to fit a jacobs as far as I can see. Thanks ted

Both Nova & The Toolpost say that Electra Beckum lathe headstocks are threaded M20 x 1.5

Drill chucks come in various taper fittings & threads. I prefer a 13mm hand tight one which are cheap to buy or can be robbed off an old battery or electric drill. These are threaded 1/2" x 20 TPI (or 3/8" x 24 TPI for 10mm chucks) - it's generally written on the side. The hard part will probably be finding someone to make you up an adaptor to connect the two threads as I don't see you finding a ready made one..

These are mine. A chuck fitted to a handle. A chuck fitted to a 3/4"x16 adaptor & an M33x3.5 to 3/4"x16 adaptor. These allow me to secure the chuck to either of my lathes without the risk of them coming loose & without tailstock support.

(Sorry for the delay )thanks for your help I now understand that on my electra lathe you cannot use a jacobs chuck as the tailstock is a solid screwed threaded piece with no hole in. Thanks again. Ted
