A while ago I cut out a picture of Johnny Cash using a scroll saw. Not long after a customer commented that he liked it.To cut a long story short I let the customer have it.
This same customer has started a guitar build so i gave him some thin pieces of ash to try steam bending. He waltzed in the other day with the pieces and I was well chuffed he'd bent them- hes since steamed his ' proper' pieces
Asked what he was gonna do with the ash pieces and his reply was ' chuck em' seemed a waste really.

I decided id make another Johnny Cash picture in the shape of a guitar.

Luckily I managed to get a picture of the old one before it was framed

Ive ordered a jc 7 inch single to go on the left, what im really after is a slow running battery motor so it will spin - somehow need a press switch in behind the plektrum. For Christmas I gave my auntie a recordable card, shes got real bad eyesight so this seemed the answer. I managed to find a similar circuit so hopefully pressing the plectrum should activate the spinning single, and get him to say ' hello, im johnny cash' maybe followed by ' now you gonna die !!!!!'

Its the motor thats gonna cause issue's- it was my workmates suggestion - I reckon it'll be good if it works. I personally think Johnny Cash is a legend so im gonna try my hardest to the thing spinning. Off to tescos now to try and find something for the spinny bit

Cheers

Stew, that little switch is just what im after thanks  I did debate buying a cash plektrum but thought it being near the signature might be too much....?

Apologies for the small pic, but you might just be able to make out the plektrum I made from a broken try square instead. Cutting the mount correctly took me four attempts and about 1.5 hours :p im gonna cut it in behind the mdf to show about 6mm of the black mount.
Im a bit gutted with regard to getting the record to spin though. Cant remember the exact description but think I would have needed a ' push to delay off relay' or something like that :???: the only voltages I could find though were 240 or 12 volts. I was hoping to run it all off common aa's
:-| one day I might stumble across something that'll work. I was kind of thinking kids toys usually turn off after a certain time- i couldn't think of anything suitable though - Oh well

Cheers

Ive referenced a few times to using the same 'recording module' as this in the rabbit thread. Thought id tie up some loose ends and post the finished pic with a short video.

Im not sure if its cause the sides were salvaged from the log pile, or that its a pic of one of my favourite country singers, but this is probably one of the most enjoyable things ive made. Video-

One of the hardest decisions was whether to keep it at home, or leave it at work. Its been home for the last 6 months or so, but tomorrow im gonna take it back to the shop - i spend most of my time in the workshop anyway (hammer) After making it i kept on randomly saying 'hello im Johnny cash' One day my workmates 4 year old kid told me to 'stop saying that, or i'll drill your face off'  Im gonna have to screw it up out the way so he cant reach to sabotage it.

Slow running motor driven by AA's? Could you fettle something from a clock? No real weight there after all.
Nice work BTW.

Cheers xy. The clock idea would be great- easy to mount, common battery size its just a shame its so slow. Wonder what would happen if you pushed 9 volts through the normal 1.5v thing....... :geek:

Coley, sorry about that, brain in wrong gear. Still it has set me thinking about small toy cars etc..

No need to apologise -
If there was such a thing as a heavy duty clock mechanism with a second hand, it might just work ! Think it might be quite neat having the record always spinning.
