Semi rotary pumps were still in use during the 1960's
I would have converted the pump handle into the electrical switch.

Looks like the pump lever doesn’t control the light. That’s a major fail.

I've got one of these -the pump not the lamp - attached to the well in my garden. I believe there is a firm in India that still makes them.
