Hi I have these pieces if timber which i was told by the bloke who gave me them they are ash but my thinking says they're chestnut. Can anyone tell me because I'm making a chopping board with some cherry and walnut?
i have some ash that looks like that, so I would concur with the bloke that gave it to you. Most of the ash that I have/had is much lighter, but there were some boards just like that.
Chestnut is easy - if you think it's ash then change your mind and think it's oak, then it's chestnut.
Nothing oaky about your piece so it's most likely ash.
