Yes, I think so. Only used them in solid timber, but can't see any problem.

Yes good for jigs you will need to countersink to get them below the surface

Yes, make sure you drill the right size hole and get them in nice and straight or you'll end up with bumps around them which is a pain. For extra strength put them in the opposite side to where you want to apply the load so they're being pulled in like a t-nut

Yeah, I use them in MDF all the time.

Hi,

Looks complicated, how about an allen key in a bit holder held in a drill press, then wind it in by hand.
