Is it light/heavy, waxy or dry and did it come from the blanks in the top left of the photo because it might help identify it in the raw. Top right is ebony?
 
How about a before shot of the stock, which has a planed surface?
I find it very difficult to identify anything in the round, compared to seeing
what the grain looks like on the flat, and that band of glare is in the worst area to spot the pore depth.

If a planed up example was shown...
Then one could see long grain pores look like, which IMO is the best way to ID most timbers.
