hi
i am wanting to buy a lathe have not used one (i posted one the other day)
i have seen one on ebay its a sip (i know its a cheap name)
sip 01360 36" swivel head its £240 with £12 delivery
has anyone got one or used one?
i usually stay clear of cheap tools but i have not used a lathe before and want to try it
or does anyone know of a good cheap lathe
cheers
Chris

hello, why not try one on a days tution or evening clas before you commit to buy- that way you may or may not waste any money or may possibly want to specalise in minatures or hollow forms etc and need a specific lathe for that purpose.
where abouts are you?

i want the lathe for basic legs and feet mainly for furniture
and you know what it is like when you want a tool you cant wait

Hi Chris - might be worth popping down to Cleveland Woodcraft in Crescent Road to have a chat with them ?
Unfortunately, they're about the only place round Teesside you can look at turning stuff, other than Machine Mart.

And the SIP 01360 looks the same as this one from Axminster - currently out of stock, but cheaper.

You can probably do a lot better for the same price. Check out some of the Axminster lathes. Also Fox. I would also keep your eye open for 2nd hand and, though it is hard be patient. I have been 'lathe seaching' for a couple of months but am still looking.
