I don't normally do arty but I thought that I would give it a go. Kept the subject matter simple.

Made from ash and oak, the ash is spirit stained purple on the front only and highlighted using gold guilt cream. The finial is a piece of corian.

C & C most welcome

The first picture is nearest to actual colour

Simple in form it may be, but composition and execution are far from simplistic.

I like it.

You say you don`t normally do arty. Well, I think you should do it more often!
That`s a very nicely designed and executed piece you`ve produced there!

As said perhaps you should be doing more 'arty' if this is an example. Only critique I would make is that the spike looks clumsy compared to the delicacy of the arc. Just my taste mind. Really lovely piece.

I think the arc / torc looks stunning - I'd agree with the previous poster ^ that the finial/spike doesn't fit with the grace of the arc.

That ash piece is simply stunning. I can't even begin to think how you'd turn it.

Thank you all for the comments. This was made just to take a break from the 1936 ford car I am making(wooden model). I think I will be trying some more in the future as I enjoyed making this piece.

Thank you Pete the more I look at it the more I have to agree with you about the spike/finial. The other thing is I cut just a little too much off the ash piece maybe 1/4" to lift it more.

This is why I like the forums as it gives other peoples perspectives on a piece

Very good I like it, perhaps a blog on how you did it would be good for newbies like me.
Tom

Get a piece of wood the same as the arc and cut four small squares. Fix them to the corners as in the picture below This will lift the base but not give the a bulky feel about it.
