Hi there, here's one for you: I'm trying to shorten an old style Laura Ashley TV cabinet (for the big old TVs) and thought I'd take off the top, then somehow saw all around to make it shorter and put the top back on. But I think it might be glued on. Any ideas how to safely remove it without chipping it? Thanks in advance.

Difficult to say with out seeing it, can you post a link to it, you won't be able to post pictures yet.

It's not allowing me to post links either. If you search on ebay for laura ashley garrat tv cabinet it should come up. It's the big chunky one with drawers at the bottom and doors at top. It's not on the laura ashley website as they don't sell it anymore. I would just remove the doors so won't have to cut them.

Thanks!

Does it look like the picture attached? It is very unlikely that the top is just glued on. If all you are wanting to do is shorten the top part of the cabinet, I would be tempted to simply cut all round beneath the top, make good the underside, shorten the cabinet and refit as required. It will need dowels as well as glue, or some other fixing method to hold the top on securely. Probably some internal batten rails.

Yes that's the one. I think I will just do that. Somehow had it in my head to remove the top without sawing so there's no "damage" but it won't really matter as it will be stuck on the bottom half. will just remove the doors as the cabinet will be too low for doors. We just want a 20 cm or so gap betwen the top and bottom so it won't be that tall and we can stand our flat screen on top as it doesn't fit inside. Thanks for your help!
