Maybe it's just the picture, but looking at the pic of the failed joint in the first post, to my eyes the glue didn't look evenly distributed along the length and there appeared to be spaces on each mating surfaced where there was no glue.

I don't want to sound patronising, but I wonder if - when the glue was applied - the pieces of wood were rubbed back and forth to make sure that each of the mating surfaces are fully coated. The glue also seems to have stayed on the surfaces of the wood, rather than to have penetrated. Obviously the denser the wood, the more likely that is to happen.

Good luck with it anyway.

Where are people buying titebond from? Not easy to find it....

I’d stick with your D4 - pun intended :)
It should be capable of creating a bond stronger than the wood being joined.
Just make sure the glue and workshop are over 10°C when you use it and hasn’t got too cold in storage.

yeah I had full coverage of glue on the joints, I spread it with my finger and achieved 100% coverage

A few months ago I repaired a gun stock with Titebond 3 and the joint failed. I'm in no doubts that it was oil in the pores of the wood despite me thinking it was clean. I cleaned again with isopropyl alcohol and then with acetone just to be sure. This time I switched to a specialist epoxy and the joint held although it may have worked with TB as well.
