Hello, just wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to get the same finish on all my furniture but I am struggling to figure out how they've got the finish on this console table... It looks like paint or dye? If anyone knows how I could get the plank of wood in the picture to the same (or similar) colour and finish as the console table it would be really appreciated :)

Thanks

Alex

Getting wood pale or whitish can be done a number of ways but here my money would be on it not being done with wax because it's not just in the grain and recesses but more overall. I was initially thinking it might be bleached but it could be simpler than that, it might just be painted. Any paint thinned down and brushed out can work for this, including emulsion.

My money would be on this too, a weaker 50/50 solution of water based paint, preferably matt, lightly applied and left to dry - 1 or 2 coats depending on your preference and coverage (to me looks like a sort of light stone/ ivory/ cream with a bit more brown in colour rather than white). Maybe a bit of a rub back with 120 to reveal a bit of grain, then use a dark wax on top to dirty it down a bit, paying special attention to nooks and crannies to leave wax there, like the details on the turned legs, you can see a dark wax buildup.

I would say your first job though would be to hit that plank fairly hard with a sander to remove some of that stain, otherwise it'll show through and darken the effect - but that's your call ofc.
