When I was having radio therapy for prostate cancer and the following injections I was told that a side effect could be hot sweats.
So what! when I was working I sweat, and couldn't understand why my wife made such an issue of it when going through the change, just wipe your face and get on with it.
What a mistake to make. They are the most awful thing that I have gone through. I sit watching the tele when it just runs out of me. I wake up in the night wringing wet through and have to get a change of jim jams. Not only that there is the most peculiar feeling in my arms and chest
Needles to say my wife now revels in it saying "now you know what I went through"

Anyway I was in Wikos a couple of weeks ago when I saw a Chillmax pillow and it is fantastic. It's plastic about 12"x 24" filled with gel. When I feel a sweat coming on I sit with it at my back, wrapped around stomach, or even on my head and the cooling effect is fantastic.
It's the best tenner I have ever spent. If you have the sweats try one, you will not be disappointed

Alan

The missus has recently started getting random flushes and my calming phrase of 'its yer age get over it' doesn't go down too well - probably her hormones again ;) so I'll grab one and stick it under the tree for next week. :)

Well, you won't need a Christmas sweater... you ARE one!

My mum actually has a very similar thing following chemotherapy for cancer, completely threw her body thermostat out and she can get randomly very hot or very cold, must be horrible.

I had radiotherapy for testicular cancer, some 14 years ago now, but remember a weird effect that felt like I had pee running down my legs (it wasn't).

Amigo Alan , I feel your pain. I was under the same mistaken opinion as were you. Next came : same disease , same treatment and to boot was given hormone adjustments to make me as near menopausal as my embattled Y chromosome would tolerate. I can't say that you'll get used to it, but rather that it becomes less of a concern. Has got some benefits though, a pre-emptive cold beverage (your choice , but I like Rye or Bourbon) is easier to get SWMBO on board with if you not just sympathise but feel her discomfort. Empathy really can move mountains! For relief I often turn to freezer packs (the blue ones) wrapped in a towel. I intend to keep an eye peeled for those Jelly pillows though, sounds cool.
