I have a new unfinished veneered oak interior door. How can i protect it without losing the natural colour?

Water based floor varnish! I use this quite a lot as it does not chage the colour of the wood.

Thank you, can you recommend a product please?

Sadolin always seems good to me! Never had an issue. or osmo as well they are also very good.

ebs...be warned that as far as I can see both Sadolin and Osmo (although good products in their own right) do NOT do any water-based finishes and so will alter the colour of your oak.

I use Aquacoat SP from Smith & Rodgers although their minimum size may be a tad large for your requirements.

I used a Sadolin (or Sikkens ) clear acrylic varnish that I'm sure was water based?
Not at home at the moment do cannot check?

thank you, its quite confusing as i have never done this before and i dont want to ruin the natural colour :(

Even the clearest coating will have some darkening effect - akin to the colour of the wood when wet. Ronseal clear water based acrylic varnish (satin) is the best I've found for minimal colour change.

I think you'll find any surface treatment, and even the effect of light and air on untreated timber will lead to some colour change. It's one of the joys/challenges of working with natural materials. Try to get a scrap of oak and test different finishes.
