Competition, Elevator2010,sponsored by NASA, make a working model for the climber for the elevator.

Goal is to make a machine that can climb a 55 metre ribbon in 55 seconds.

Working machine will be powered by sun or laser for a 62,000 mile journey.

NASA has allocated a mere $4,000,000 over the next 5 yrs.

If it's a working model, were are we going to get the carbon filament ribbon that we need to test it on.

Whats the world coming to when NASA have to resort to competitions to sort out their technological advances, do what the british do - get some z-list celebrities and get the dim witted dullards of the country to spend money on voting for them.
