Hardwood supply

I have been two days on the internet trying to find suppliers of hardwood. I never thought such a thing would be so difficult. I need a variety of hardwoods 10mm and 18mm thick and it would have to be delivered as i cannot find anyone in Wales to help me out. I was going to buy hardwood flooring but the dammed stuff is grooved on the bottom face. If anyone knows a supplier that can help i would be grateful for details. many thanks.

geoff the brains started to work again its mick jones timber by cross hands,
or llanboidy saw mills
but the best in all west wales is dickmans saw mill up by gandy cross/clynderwen
he has a huge choice and buy far the best in all of wales

Hi Woodmaster. Many thanks for those two leads. I know of Mick Jones timber. I never even thought to try and contact him. Do you know if both will supply planed timber around 10mm and 20mm thickness, be great if they did. I have now got one firm supplier based in Wiltshire, their base is in Holland and they can ship what I need over here and the average price is around £20 a square metre, not bad. They specialise in walnut but can get most other species. I will drive down and pick it up for that price.

Hi Kieron. I have done some detective work. I see you are in Ammanford, not far away from me. I have a feeling Mick Jones timber went out of business according to my contacts in the Ammanford area. The other lead is still active though and it's called Dickmans Sawmills and they are in Glandy Cross in Whitland. I will be giving them a ring and see what sort of hardwoods they do and get some prices and if you are interested I can let you know how the land lies so to speak.

Thanks Geoff i would be most interested in the prices of Timber at Dickmans and just to let you know there are 2 scroll sawers in this arae Myself and one other we are always looking for timber.
I suppose you know about Timber man Just outside Carmarthen they tools as well as timber it is worth giving them aring before you go

Hi Kieron. Nice to hear from you and also that there is another scroller in your area. I lived in Ammanford before moving to St Clears and I am always up that way as my son and his family live there. Yes, at the moment I am Timbermans best customer. I was due to pick up my new Excalibur 21 from there today but the lorry got stuck somewhere so it will be tomorrow. I buy timber from him for my wood turning but he does not seem to do planed timber. I had a friend call today and he has a cabinet maker living opposite him and he has his timber come from Bristol and the firm deliver to Wales once a week. I shall have all the information on this on Thursday when my friend calls round to help me move a band saw. I have not had a chance to ring Dickmans but I will first thing in the morning. I am hoping that in a few more days I will have two or three suppliers where I can get timber on a regular basis. It is a real pain as all my timber has to be planed. I cannot have a planer as my neighbours would complain and i would not blame them. Will look forward to chatting gain Kieron. Happy scrolling.

hi geoff we moved from whitland about a year ago, if i was still there i would plain as much timber as you like for free,

Hi Woodmaster. That is really kind of you to invite me over and i would love to come over and meet you one day, maybe after Christmas when things have died down. Lampeter is not too far from me. I have never been so busy in my life. I am going like the clappers to build up stock for the next craft fair. I am spending the next three days sorting out the new workshop, on Saturday I am going to get some half inch thick teak planks, 6inches wide and 6ft long. I was wondering if the guy was asking to much money for them at £2 a plank, I jest of course. Got a speeding ticket yesterday rushing around, My new stuff for the workshop failed to turn up today but that's the way it often goes. All the best.

i know what its like to move your workshop i have only just got mine how i like it and iam still moveing things around. i quicker getting the house right than my workshop

Thanks for your reply re the Hard wood I wiil ahve to have think about getting in some wood supplies and may pay Dickmans a visit with my Friend we will see.
I would be very ineterested in any other places to get timber and look forward to hearing from you.
