I'm getting sick of pulling splinters out of my fingers and hands from handling plywood. Has anyone got any recommendations for gloves that are going to help? I'd prefer reusable rather than disposables. Obviously need to be grippy, but are air holes on the back a good idea too ?

.

Look around for some biker-style* gloves, or punk gloves, gym gloves, fashion stuff....
Basically, there's a whole fashion trend for sturdy leather gloves that have thick leather in the palms (many are even padded) but have open nets on the back.
Many driving gloves are similar. Usually come in fingered or fingerless versions.

*Not actual motorcycle gloves, as they're very different.

these are good, give a good grip as well

I use the same brand, but with a slightly different texture of nitrile. The only issue with these types of gloves coating is that your hands will smell pretty rank the longer you use them. And I’m pretty sure that they’re not manufactured to be washed.

Keep a sanding block handy every time you cut ply and knock the arrises off before you handle it. I got used to doing that decades ago when handling ply made from obscure African hardwoods whose splinters infected while you watched them. :D

Another option to look for is sailing gloves. Might sound mad but I looked for years to find a solution to gloves that would stand up to industrial rope access work in winter. Sailing gloves were the best option I found.
Mid range price: £10 -20 sailing gloves are really well made. Leather palms for rope work, neoprene backs etc. They are well fitted and come sized. Look for light summer gloves and a brand. There's just so many now.
Orange ones with the bobble plastic bits. Not for me like wearing mittens while driving a sportscar. No thanks.
The ones Ben (tyreman) posted are site favourites these days and a good average.

Cut resistant, tight knitted kevlar gloves with the foam neoprene palms and fingers are effective and durable. I like 3M's version. My wife uses a pair as gardening gloves and they just go in the washing machine.

I've taken a fresh stanley knife to a pair as hard as I could slice down onto the bench. I did damage but they held up very well. They would have reduced a crippling injury to something much less.

That's a good price for what looks like the same fabric and same cat5 rating (as long as your hands are big enough to fill them - we buy small and large sizes).
Cheers !
Tenner a pair is not uncommon for these.

They may be a touch on the small for sizing. I where the XL and am far from being a giant.

Thanks everyone, picked up the toolstation ones (XL) arrived today - quite comfy too. Couldn't find anywhere other than ebay for the 3m ones.

Bodgers I gotta say, I think you and the internet are spending a lot of time together these days.
Having said that... 57 % off is 57% off eh? :-s
Pr-etty Sweeeeeet Deal....
Few years back walked into a pub in Blackfriars after work on a Saturday for a fast one.
There was a whole group of people dressed up as animals. In broad daylight. In the pub.
Asked the barmaid. Ahhh yeh. They are Furries.
What?
Furries. They think they are animals.
What now?
They are people that dress up as animal personas..
Stop there love.
She shrugged. It takes all sorts.
So does a good furnace I said.

In case you don't know, Stargate SG-1 is a sci-fi TV programme..... and there's usually an actor's panel at various conventions.

Chris Judge is one of the main cast. Very popular, down-to-earth kinda guy, everyone likes him, etc... He's pretty used to weird sci-fi people dressed up in strange costumes being around him, too.

This is one such convention panel and you just reminded me of it:

Chris Judge still makes references to it in interviews and things!!

Strangely, though, I think Bodgers's gloves might actually work quite well...!!
