Geo Atkinson Saw

I bought an old rip saw in a boot sale yesterday and under the grime I can just make out an engraving of Geo Atkinson & Co. Anybody know anything about this maker? Was it a forerunner of Atkinson Walker? And was I ripped off? I paid £1.

As long as the plate is straight and not badly pitted, you did fine.

Anything better than that, you did more than fine.

I bought the saw at a car boot sale less than a mile from Mill Lane, Cardiff so it hasn't travelled very far. Discussion is still ongoing about its age.

A few tips for the photographing of the stamp for them. Try not to use flash unless it's off camera. Natural light is better. Failing that, angle lights plus use either mirrors or white card/paper as reflectors to get light onto the saw. Plus you may have better luck with the saw upright rather than laid flat.
