I have acquired a brand new Freud Pro LP40M025 TCT Cross Cutting Saw Blade 250 X 30 X 60 Tooth and want to know if it is suitable for use in a 3HP saw table because a colleague suggested it might be for a chop-saw?

Itll be fine in a table saw.

It looks like a positive rake blade, which is ideal.

Chop saw blades should have a negative rake to minimise the climbing effect of a positive rake blade in a chop saw or radial arm saw application.

Hello again RobinBHM,

I tried looking for images of the rake angle on google and I still can't make up my mind as to which type it is. You said it looked like it is positive, can you provide the link which shows the picture you looked at? I'm sure you're right but just want to make absolutely sure - apologies!

The top image certainly resembles the LP40M 025. The bottom image also resembles another two blades I have - LP30M 025 and LP20M 025 - does the bottom image also indicate a positive rake? The three blades belonged to a (now deceased) relative so I couldn't ask him when I acquired them, so I do really appreciate your advice!

I looked at a similar image to the one linked by Beau, visually it looks like positive rake. The specification isnt helpful as the images show all tip configurations.

If it was a negative rake blade, Im sure it would be noted on the listings. Generally sawblades are all positive rake and is the standard, so positive rake isnt mentioned. Negative rake is a specific type so such blades will have that mentioned.

A negative rake is quite obviously different so Im sure you would be able to see.

A negative blade will wotk on a saw table, but its not best practice as there is more theoretical risk of kickback. I dont think Ive ever tried so I cant say for sure, but that is both logical and generally the advice.

Thanks once more RobinBHM, your advice is very reassuring! You have gone above and beyond on this one - cheers!
