fork andle

I've been given a wooden handled standard size garden fork - a wire brush and wipe over with oil will do for the tines but without making a mountain of a job - for the handle which is very dry - should I just go with linseed oil and put it in the shed let it soak in and forget it until next year?

It would be good to make up a mix of boiled linseed oil with 10% of white
spirits or turpentine added. Keep in a bowl, and every two or three days give
the handle a good wipe over with the mixture. Do this 10 or 15 times and it'll
be good.

If the handle is varnished there is not much you can do.

I make up a mi of Bee's wax and white spirit, until I get a creamy paste.. Then add Linseed oil.

Then I rub the handle down with wire wool to clean it and smooth it. Then with a old T shirt I apply the paste. In thin applications.
It buffs to a dull shine, then I leave it.

At Men In Shed that does the wooden handle in good condition.
The steel is cleaned, dried off and then clean engine oil applied.

Wouldn’t add wax, linseed oil better bet. Oil will soak in and then polymerise in the wood, wax will slow any oil absorption.

I'm going down the route of a couple of coats of the mix then one of plain and put it away till next spring when I expect a quick wipe over will see it complete/done
