After getting some great advice on books and tool buying options / order from my first post i thought i would ask another question that was raised off the back of my first post.

I have no workshop space and am restricted to working in the small back yard I have.

The more reading and video watching I do the more I see just how important a good workbench is - no point having a lovely tools if your work surface is all over the place I guess....

I currently have one of these that was bought for the renovation work on my flat http://www.screwfix.com/p/keter-folding-workbench/56566

Its a great bit of kit in its own right and far more stable than the B&D work bench i used to own. My concern is the way everything has to be clamped down onto the bench before i can work on it and the 2 removable quick clamps are not really strong enough to act as a rock solid vice since the contact area with the work piece is small.

anything i get needs to be able to fold down and be stored in an outside cupboard.

any help greatly welcomed.

cheers
Pete

I think your best option here is pencil and paper. Design something to fit your storage restrictions and build it yourself. That way you can always make provision for adding removable extension tables for working on larger items.

yes i had been thinking about this but i am unsure if i have the knowledge and skills for this yet. My evening classes start in a few weeks time but the project in the classes is a dovetailed box....

if anyone can recommend a set of plans for a fold up workbench i am sure i could scale them to my needs its just understanding the basic construction and joins i need some guidance on.
