Has any one got any details or pics, of how to fit friction hinges to traditional casement windows please

Tight to side of frame if side hung or top of frame if its top hung. There should be enough clearance allowed to accommodate this.
if you are installing new hinges in an existing frame that previously had different hinges the required clearance may not be available.
all the best

Do you mean flush casements on friction stays?

If so, its somewhat involved, you either need a check rebate on the cill part, or a 9 degree drip angle and friction stays that the supllier also offer a wedge shaped packer.
