Had a nice few hours on the lathe this afternoon, first turning for a good couple of months as I've been busy doing other stuff. First some walnut bowls. These were commissioned, I recently made a table for someone and they asked for some bowls from the offcuts. Finished with shellac sanding sealer and wax.

Also a couple of bits for the workshop that I've been meaning to do for a while, a mallet for the more delicate chisel jobs and a new vise handle.

Nicely turned bowls. Only a turner would normally pick up on the reverse turning so its nice to see you doing it for a client too :)

Fully agree on both counts, the bowls are classic in shape encouraging practical use, with no need of embellishments which would only have detracted from the beauty of the figuring.

Very nice stuff WM, I especially like the platter, great design, really enhances the wood.

Thanks for the comments, I would say it's one of my favourite woods to turn. It cuts beautifully and polishes up to a lovely warm hue that my photos don't do justice to.

Some very striking grain in the bowls, very nice =D>
Mallet looks like a weapon of mass destruction, just the job

Nowt wrong with walnut IMHO. I think it is a beautiful timber.
I'm not able to do any turning myself at present due to a rotator cuff injury, so have to drool over the work of others.

Finishing off the bottoms of bowls is what I want to work on next, when I finally get back behind the lathe.
