I have made several pieces of teak furniture for use inside and in the garden.
Finishing with danish of other oils darkens the wood.
does anybody know of a suitable finishing product that will not darken teak.

Just a thought - since teak tends to bleach out after one or two seasons, would it really matter if Danish oil darkens it a bit in the first place?

Regards.

Teak is easy to finish but most finishes will darken it. I think the only thing that would keep more of a natural colour is a blond shellac but I don't know wether this is good for teak. I always now use a couple of coats of finishing oil followed by a good application of teak wax.....timber comes up a treat. This is a recent casket finished for the competition:

As you can see, the timber finished like this looks quite good and it's really easy to do - Rob

Dave I've used teak a lot on the inside of my boat, I wouldn't use anything other than danish oil, any darkening will lighten over time any way. As for outside furniture I only use teak oil once a year at the begining of each summer then nothing, please dont plaster varnish on it.... Yuk!
