I'm looking to enter a couple pieces in the Colorado State Fair this year, one cabinetry piece and one more sculptural piece.

The cabinet will be kind of Krenov-y and made with Padauk. I started sizing up the stock last night and found an unpleasant surprise.

That's a real bummer when that happens!
Good luck with the project.

That's not all, Pete - I got a couple of bits of finest Luftwaffe schrapnel embeded in a Lacewood billet once.
At least the bullets are lead. That other stuff is lethal for chisels.
