Box body work content reduced to a simple boring process as opposed to a more time consuming hollowing.

Now need to work on the lid/box interface to improve the 'join' and increase the fit leeway to avoid too much fiddling.

Chuck/Jaw selection and routine still needs refining to avoid too many changes.

I love your stuff. Please keep posting! Oak and walnut seems like a very nice combination of colour and warmth. Is there a third wood there, in the contrasting spiral of the lid? Or is it simply a darker and a lighter section of oak you've used alternately?

Out of curiosity, where do you get your walnut from? I've only seen small amounts for sale anywhere, and normally at pretty high prices.

Very nice Chas,i must admit i prefer the simpler look :D
Have you thought about doing the pattern for the base so it can be seen when opened??

The lid is Oak and Walnut, the segmented band on the box is largely Walnut with Oak strips.

The different Shades are down to core/sapwood boundaries in the wood and the differing light reflections dependant upon angle of view.

I'm fortunate enough to have a local benefactor who has loads from a furniture manufacturer as firewood and passes me a selection they think is too good to burn.
