Depends on what tools you have and intend to get.

I started with portable power tools and bought a Trend T30AF (with the fine filter), it's a HPLV unit, like a shop vac and works very well but then I bought a bench-top planer thicknesser and a band saw - it doesn't have enough throughput to extract from these.

I wanted a larger extractor but still with a fine filter so bought a Record DX4000, still HPLV but it has two vacuum motors/units for more throughput, in retrospect I perhaps should have gone for this from the start as it would do the job of the T30 and is big enough to handle a small PT and bandsaw, not as portable though.

You might also want to look at some of the Camvac products - they've got HPLV units with 3 motors.
