Dust extractor

I seem to be working a lot more with MDF, any cutting or sanding I do on the drive because of the dust, I have decided to invest in a dust extractor but which type do I buy?

My workshop is a single garage ith not a lot of room so do I go for something like this

And what is the difference between the two?

Neither of those (they're HVLP) is suitable for MDF as the bags will let the fine dust through.
You need a proper HPLV vacuum extractor.

Depends on what tools you have and intend to get.

I started with portable power tools and bought a Trend T30AF (with the fine filter), it's a HPLV unit, like a shop vac and works very well but then I bought a bench-top planer thicknesser and a band saw - it doesn't have enough throughput to extract from these.

I wanted a larger extractor but still with a fine filter so bought a Record DX4000, still HPLV but it has two vacuum motors/units for more throughput, in retrospect I perhaps should have gone for this from the start as it would do the job of the T30 and is big enough to handle a small PT and bandsaw, not as portable though.

You might also want to look at some of the Camvac products - they've got HPLV units with 3 motors.

They're better, but you need a very fine filter for MDF dyst.
