I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you please help with information about Totton Timber?

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

Are they hobby friendly? Reasonably - they have a shop and you have to ask for what you want. The guys tend to be friendly and helpful

Can you self-select or is it by appointment? Self select just turn up

Will they deliver? Yes

Do they have online ordering? Limited

Are prices displayed at the yard? Not on timber, it is best to phone ahead to get the best price

Do they sell domestic hardwoods? Yes

Do they sell other hardwoods? Yes - limited range

Do they sell softwoods? Yes

Do they sell manufactured boards? Yes

Do they sell turning blanks? Not that I have seen

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard? Medium sized yard

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle? Yes

Do you have any comments? A commercial timber yard with knowledgeable helpful staff

Can you self-select or is it by appointment? You have to ask for what you want at the counter, then you are escorted to the yard to make the selection

Will they deliver? I think they do local deliveries one day per week from memory

Do they have online ordering? no but you can see the range of products from the website

Are prices displayed at the yard? I don't think so - they tend to be expensive

Do they sell other hardwoods? limited range of inported hardwood and tends to be only PAR

Do they sell softwoods? yes

Do they sell manufactured boards? yes

Do they sell turning blanks? no

Do you have any comments? . Limited range of imported PAR hardwoods and seems expensive.
I prefer to work with native sawn timber and plane to size. Totton Timber may well suit others better if they don't have preparation machinery.
It is possibly my nearest yard and yet I rarely go there which may say it all
