Earlier today I decided to buy a Dewalt 625, I briefly considered a Trend T10 but it was about £50 more expensive and out of my price range until I saw MMUKs post about CPC having T10s on sale.

So is there anything to chose between the two machines that I have mentioned here ? What can the T10 do that the Dewalt can't ?

NB if there is already a comparison or discussion of this topic please just direct me it, thanks

... what colour do you like, black, yellow or loud orange*?

I quite fail to understand why manufacturers do this, at least, from the perspective of power tools. It's just possible the service/support chain is different, but the physical product?

If you want a real laugh, look at biscuit jointers from the bigger power tool brands (Lamello are distinct).

*don't forget CMT!

There was a rumour that the Trend routers were made in the same factory as the Dewalt ones. The T10 and 625 are identical in spec from what I can tell. If you plan to use the router in a table then try and spring the extra ££ and go for the T11 which has a fine height adjuster that can be used through the table. There is a way to modify the adjuster on the 625 to give some form of thru the table adjustment.

The only other difference I know of is the use of guide bushes. The Dewalt is a bit restrictive on the types you can use and you need an adaptor, funnily enough supplied by Trend, to be able to use a wider selection than the one normally supplied with the unit. The Trend uses a standard type that is easy to fit and adjust and accepts a range of bushes without needing to buy anything extra.

I have the 625 and really like it. If I was looking to choose between the two and they were the same money I would see what extras I could get when I bought it - case, guides, collets.

Good points.

Does the guide bush thing have anything to do with them usually mainly being used for worktop and similar jigs? I've a set of the various sizes (fits the Trend spacings, incl. the Unibase for my smaller routers) but don't use many of them.

The depth shaft is a standard 10mm thread, IIRC, so 1.5mm/rev. I bet you could fit a T11 one to a T10/625 with a bit of fiddling, but it's sort-of missing the other point - the advantage of a big, open base for cutter changing is huge. Now I've got a T11, I wouldn't want to go back to squeezing a cranked spanner in, etc. The rather nice single ended spanner that came with it almost always fits perfectly, from above the table.

I haven't had an occasion when I've needed to drop a large cutter below the top (apart from this one, but even it is craftily shaped to be narrower at the bottom), but spannering from the top is dead handy. In theory I should just remove the router plate from the table and do the setup with the router+plate tipped over on the tabletop, but my router plate is shimmed along the back edge to give a precise distance to the table track. Spannering from above means I needn't disturb it.

Sorry - virtually a thread hijack! I hardly ever do worktops, so my 1/2" routers get far less use than when table mounted. Almost all handheld stuff is done by a couple of small Bosch ones. So the 625/T10 thing is moot (for me), as nobody makes a T11 clone as far as I know.

If it _is_ for worktops and stair jigs, etc, then a T10 ought to be as good as a 635/CMT.

Oddly, CPC also have a T5 on offer, for more than the T10 - how does that work???

It'll be table mounted mostly. The T11 is not in the same price range as the 625 & T10 at present and is not under consideration.

Did you not see my link to CPC yesterday for the T11 then? Cheaper than the 625 @ around £180.

yes but it's 110V and I don't have nor want to fork out on a transformer. Your link is what made me consider the T10 again

If it's for table use then I would look at an alternative, something like a Triton or possibly Makita. Neither the 625 or T10 are that suited to table use, they are aimed at tradesmen who don't need some of the features that make it easy to use in a table. Height adjustment and more importantly changing cutters is a real faff for both of these as Eric indicated. I use my 625 in a table but have a router raiser to raise the router up high enough for me to change the cutter, I think you would need a cranked spanner to do this normally. With the 625 and T10 you'll be forever fiddling under the table.

It'll be OK in my table (or a new one of the same design), my MOF96E is.

Given the constraints - good value on offer - go for it! But if there is a T11 somewhere on offer too, how much extra is the above table adjustment and the wider mouth worth?
I quite agree, if I could find a T11 at a 625 price (~£230) it's what I'd go for.
