Hi,
I'd like to make a 'dam' to encircle a crack in a turned piece of wood, so that I can pour polyester resin into it. I was thinking of using plasticine, but wanted to know if anyone had any experience with it, or has any other method or material to use.

thanks
Gary

Plasticine will be fine with resin.
I used plasticine in my fibreglass business most days making radius curves in my moulds.

I use plasticine all the time for exactly this job and it works beautifully.

You need to need it well to get it nice and soft so it sticks properly.

Thanks Russ, thanks John,
I can go ahead now, I'm using some gold coloured 'jewels' I got from CFS, along with the resin and catalyst, fingers crossed! :)

Make sure also that the crack doesn't go all the way through, I usually use masking tape on the underside of every crack even if I can't see one. Polyester resin doesn't stick to timber very well, it will shrink back and you will be left with a crack again. Epoxy resin will adhere very well.
