Does anyone make a brace a bit like the Ikea OBSERVATÖR, but not a cross, just a single length, about 200-300mm long?

It's a thick wire (or is that thin rod), with flattened ends to take a screw. Does such a thing exist?

make your own. 4mm rod can be had in any length and the ends can be worked with a hammer and a block of metal (the tail of a bench vice its perfect) then a quick drill of a hole and bobs you mothers brother so to speak. note though that without the cross over they aren't much use.

Difficult to advise without knowing the purpose but assume it's only to be used under tension i.e. to prevent two items moving apart? If so, you can do what novocaine says or just buy the Ikea product, separate the two pieces and cut one rod to the desired length; flatten (vice, hammer, whatever) the end; drill a hole.....

An alternative is to buy wire rope (or even copper cable if loads aren't high) and twist a loop for the screw; or crimp on a terminal; or terminate with a connector.

B&Q have metal bar in 1 meter lengths round flat etc.
