I had to do this for the missus. From laminate floorboard which wasn't quite wide enough, but luckily the groove can't be seen from the front.

You mean move on to the Hegner? I cut the elephants before I got the Hegner. I still need some decent wood but I don't drive so I rely on the missus, but she's got frozen shoulder and is in a lot of pain when she's driving. I've got two 'new' old stool tops that look nice, but they are really hard, and about 1" thick. I've no idea what sort of wood it is, and I'm not sure I could cut them.

I cut the elephants again from some old 12mm ply, and I sprayed them with some unknown oil that was left after my mother died. I think it came from Betterware or someplace like that she was always buying from. It gave a sort of antique finish to the edges, which unfortunately doesn't seem to show on a photo, but looks nice - to me anyway. But the best part about it was, I didn't break any blades! I'm now sure Mark was right and I had been using too much pressure on the blade clamps. I suspect I might still have some problems with smaller size blades, but a #5 seems about right for me now, so I think I will stay with that size as much as possible.

Martin, still learning.
