What do you think?

Hi Johnny,
Now I do like that bowl and the red glow seems to really make a nice effect underneath. I can see what you mean that the picture maybe does not do the shine full justice but I like it anyway.
Regards,
Ian

Nice bowl.

It is interesting how a little scorching can change the look quite radically.Nice warn colour which adds to it.

Thanks guys :D

Santos, I like chunky bowls and make quite a few of them.

Mark, yes the scorching has made what was a very plain piece of Ash look a bit more exotic

Nice one. Whilst I like the things that are obviously dyed etc the more subtle ones like this appeal a lot as well. It doesn't hit you in the face that it has been burned and dyed. I have a mahogany bowl that I dyed that people think is natural wood though before dying it was bland and boring. I'll get a picture up later. An excellent example of the techniques enhancing the wood, not taking it over (yours not mine  )

It must have been just a quick pass with the blowtorch Johnny. Just to change the colour a bit, but not the texture. Is that the orange Chestnut stain? I passed it over a lot then found it to be one of my favourites.

Pete, would be interested to see the effect of these dyes on something a bit darker like mahogony :)

LW the outside is done with a little bit of red,the inside is just a teeny drop of orange worked in from the centre out and then yellow over the top(seems to give a nice warm golden look)

cheers JT
