I've recently made a large chopping board (450mm x 600mm) for my daughters partner.
It's worked out well including the first-time carving.
Because it was so large I had to flatten it with a sled, router and surfacing bit.
With the offcuts, plus more wood, I'm making one for Swimbo. As it's smaller my question is can I put it through the thicknesser with very fine cuts. I'll put scrap wood all the way around to protect the edges but I'm not sure if it will rip the end grain out. It's beech which is close grain.
PS The carving was created using the Aldi carving chisels which performed well. The letters are 2" (50mm) high which is the minimum hight I would carve. Anything smaller and you will need much smaller chisels than these.
