Hi everyone

i just bought a couple of Japanese chisel for collage and the steel rings at the top are loose, i read somwhere about they coming loose and you have to fit them which i thought i book marked, but I lost it and cant find it..

can somone tell me how to do it please :x

thanks

Jez,

They are nearly always loose when you buy them, just part of the "mystique"

Make a slot in a bit of scrap hardwood that can take your chisel and support it at the lower end of the handle, then clamp this to your bench. Now place your chisel in the slot and with a suitable hammer (one with a gently curved face - like one face of a Japanese hammer), hammer the wood so that it "Caulifowers" over the ring. If the ring won't sit deep enough initially to clear the top of the wood, then squeeze the top of the handle gently in a vice, rotate a quarter turn and repeat a few times. The ring should now slip down far enough to proceed.

ok, ill have to wait till monday to do it since i dont have a workshop yet, but its been built :p
