I thought I'd already posted this, but after a search it seems I haven't.
I work at a fencing company (no I'm not here to sell stuff!) which sells the rustic 2 or 3 rail chestnut fencing you often see along fields or roadsides (at least you do in Sussex!).
If you live near a fencing supplies - pop in and ask for 2 rail chestnut posts - they are about £12-£15 each and are about 2m long. Admittedly there are areas where the mortices for the rails go, but there is easily enough to get MANY decent blanks out of!
This is a picture of the type of thing I mean at our yard...
Ok, some are a bit thin - but you can state you need bigger posts to 'fit in with your existing fence'.
I hope this helps in some small way for those looking to find chestnut.
