I am after making a couple of planters for the old garden and thought about useing Redwood. Has anybody got any advise on the best wood to use at a reasonable cost and easy to procure.
Regards
Alec

Depends on how long you want the finsihed item to last. I have made some for SWMBO from the thicker grade of pressure treated softwood decking and they are still going strong 5 yrs later (stained to suit).

If you are after a hardwood 'quality' product then iroko or sapele are commen choices but watch the dust when working!

"Reasonable cost" - I have used free pallets  and, given a coat or two of timber protection, they last for well over 5 years
