bent sash mortice chisel.

Afternoon all,

I'm reasonably sure that this a silly question but I bought a nice old marples 1/4 sash mortice chisel from ebay, the only problem with it is that there is a curve down the length of the blade blade (side to side). Is there anyway I can straighten this without heating?

It might be possible to grind it straight, but it wouldn't be easy with only hand methods, and it wouldn't be 1/4" by the time you'd finished, either. Trying to bend it straight without first annealing it is likely to just snap it.

I thought so, I may just try and live with it. It should be ok as long as I dont need to do any really deep mortices.
