Bought a Bath Bomb for the wife, all it did was fizz...

Pete

You think that was a bad buy.
How about putting £73 of petrol in your car and then having to pay £210 to have it all pumped out again because it's a diesel engine...
I couldn't even put the air con on while I waited.
Very unhappy bunny

I got a little gizmo that sits under the fuel filler cover and announces quite loudly "STOP DIESEL REMEMBER DIESEL" every time you fill up,it only cost 7 quid and i reckon thats pretty good value for money considering the cost of putting things right if you do make a mistake.
For anyone unlucky enough to put petrol into a diesel engine please dont be tempted to try and drive the car as you can do some seriously expensive damage to your engine, the petrol strips away all lubrication from the engine and will damage valve seals etc.

Never made that mistake in 12 yrs of owning diesel cars (touch wood!) but our latest cars have filler pipes that are supposed to prevent that?

Sorry, Pete, didn't mean to hijack your thread.
I couldn't believe what I'd done when I realised. At least I didn't start the engine, so no actual damage done. Plus, after ringing the AA and getting quoted 266, I rang the RAC and got quoted 210, so I saved £56 just for a phone call. It could have been a lot worse. It's just that it's come at the end of a week of other unexpected and unwanted expenditures, which have done nothing but put me back where I was before.
Ark, what your Gizmo called? That seems like a good little safety gadget.

After an 'incidence' last year and draining £80 of petrol, new fuel filter, hour for the recovery truck to have a low loader lift home, garage cost £120 etc. this was poss the best buy. Annoying , but that means it works. Can't see why garages don't stock them. (The cynic in me says they make too much sorting the misfills).

Diesel pumps will not fit into unleaded fillers (too large) unleaded will fit easily into diesel. There was talk at one time of making (edit) petrol pumps triangular,so they could not be mixed up and used, but it never came to anything.

Great, thanks for that, just ordered one. I don't want to make that mistake again.
The daft thing is that I have had the car for 9 of its 10-year life. But I don't do much mileage (it's not yet done 70K miles), so don't fill up very often.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Still, nobody died, eh?

On all modern cars you cannot fit a diesel nozzle in a petrol car but you can fit a petrol in a diesel car.

A diesel car will run with a small amount of petrol in it so if anyone does it again and have only put £5 or so in, just brim the tank with diesel and you will be ok.

It is quite a common occurrence amongst biodiesel users during the winter months (including myself when I had a diesel).
Just thought I add to the hijack.

Received my little warning device today. Absolutely excellent. Brilliant. Thank you for the heads up. I think it must be just about impossible to make that mistake with this gadget fitted.

I can't understand why this technology is not fitted as standard, it obviously costs pennies to make.

Believe me it is embarrassing sometimes when you open your filler flap and someone is filling up from the pump on the other side of your island. Makes people look over as if you are talking to yourself and muttering a religious right.
