Confused and hoping someone can help.

I'm replacing 3 barn doors on old outbuildings.

I did one last year with untreated T&G softwood and a ronseal preservative.

I want to gloss these ones. However, not sure what wood I need. We had a painted garden door made for us a few years ago which was cracking after 12 months and the individual wooden verticals split quickly apart and started rotting as water got under the paint. I want to make sure this doesn't happen...

What's the right sort of wood to be using?

Many thanks in advance

I would probably use Douglas fir as you are painting them. DF is moderately resistant to rot but takes paint very well. Harder than 'softwood' but machines well.
