I don't get the chance to do this sort of thing as much as I'd like but as I had no commissions to complete I had a play. It's yew, 10" tall, 4" diameter at the top and approx 5,mm thick. Inside is roughly sanded and the outside is fully sanded and buffed.

Yep, that's the split personality of old showing through again, although I do detect a little more finesse evident with that piece.

Must admit I do miss making this sort of thing Chas. I have a pile of wood I am loath to throw out that is ideal for these things but having to make things to sell gets in the way

If it isn't up to standard I get sent back to the workshop to do it properly LOL.

Made a nice job of that Pete, must have been a fright sanding the inside!

All natural. It is from a yew log that was really fissured along it's length. All the splits are natural, the under bark is still on most of them. I have just turned sanded and polished it. I used to do a lot of this sort of thing from old roots and crotch pieces so usually have a rough idea what shape they will take.

Thanks for that, Pete. Very clever piece of turning =D> =D> , but not one to put your hands inside when sanding, I bet.
