Hi,

Just had the new 2011 axminster catalogue come through and noticed they had a few new tools including a couple of lathes. The one is a variable speed version of the Jet 1220 and the other is also a midi-ish sized lathe.

Looks quite a nice lathe, small footprint but higher height over bed that other midis. Also has invertor variable speed and forward/reverse. Looks similar to the newish Delta lathe in the USA.

Anyone had a go or play with one of these? Could be nice for larger diameter projects that don't fit on smaller midi lathes, also seems the motor and variable speed are more substantial than there AWVSL.

Hi

Just had a look at the new SIP lathe. It doesn't have a three-phase motor and inverter like the new Axi, which would partly explain the price difference. Also, the SIP has 305mm swing and a 3/4" x 16 spindle thread whereas the Axi has 350mm swing, a M33 x 3.5mm spindle and a magnetic switch/control panel that can be moved about the machine. On paper at least, the Axi looks like a far better machine.

Looks to have a similar motor setup as the variable speed midi Record, but much larger swing and movable switchgear. Tempting!!
